“IS YOUR PERFUME EATING YOU OUT”

As women we always want to feel good, look good, taste good, and smell good, but all perfumes are not created equal. Many of you are in a toxic relationship with your favorite scent, and have no idea! You can turn heads without harming your endocrine system!

What is the ENDOCRINE SYSTEM?

-The endocrine system is a network of glands in your body that makes the hormones that help cells talk to one another. They are responsible for almost every cell, organ, and function in your body. The endocrine system is also known as the HORMONE SYSTEM! Hormones control or regulate many biological processes and are often produced in exceptionally low amounts within the body. Such processes include insulin, body growth and energy production (growth hormone and thyroid hormone), differentiation, growth, and function of reproductive organs. The endocrine system, made up of all the bodies different hormones, regulates all biological processes in the body from CONCEPTION through ADULTHOOD into OLD AGE, including the development of the brain and nervous system, the growth and function of the reproductive system, as well as the metabolism and blood sugar levels. The female ovaries, male testes, and pituitary, thyroid, and adrenal glands are major constituents of the endocrine system. Research shows that ENVIRONMENTAL Contaminants can disrupt the endocrine system leading to adverse health consequences. If your endocrine system is not healthy, you might have problems developing during puberty, getting pregnant, or managing stress. You also might gain weight easily (thyroid imbalance), have weak bones, or lack energy because too much sugar stays in your blood instead of moving into your cells where it’s needed for energy.

You may ask, “where does my perfume come in”. Well understand that many perfume brands contain ENVIRONMENTAL CONTAMINANTS such as BHT, BHA, artificial colors, synthetic fats, synthetic oils, aluminum salts, formaldehyde releasers, parabens, phthalates, acrylates, lilial, coal tar, titanium dioxide, parrafin, polytetrafluoroethylene, galaxolide, etc, which disrupt the endocrine system leading to adverse health consequences such as PCOS, HYPERthyroidism, HYPOthyroidism, over production of cortisol, which can cause lots of inflammation within the body, adrenal insufficiency, infertility in men and women, etc.

PHTHALATES, which is the chemical that allows your perfume to last all day, your floor cleaner to have your home “smelling good” for hours, both have a negative effect on your thyroid health, and many people do not take into account how important a functioning thyroid is until it’s too late and it stops working. PHTHALATES are chemicals that make fragrances last very long, but your thyroid is suffering in the process. Phthalates have been cited in various articles as a TOP ENDOCRINE DISRUPTOR. Phthalates have also been linked to ASTHMA, ECZEMA, ALLERGIES, etc. Per usual, they found a way to hide this chemical in ingredients under the word ‘FRAGRANCE’, due to the FDA loophole that considers fragrance trade secrets.

‘Phthalates Effect On Pregnant Women’

Various studies have found that once a pregnant women is exposed to phthalates, they can cross the placenta and enter fetal circulation. Early life phthalate exposure was associated with decrease thyroid hormone levels in young children in various studies. Prenatal exposure phthalates in pregnant women or offspring result in PRETERM BIRTH, PREECLAMPSIA, MATERNAL GLUCOSE DISORDER, INFANT CRYPTORCHIDISM, SHORTER ANOGENITAL DISTANCE IN NEWBORNS, ETC.
