“PUTTING A CREAM ON IS EASY, NOT EFFECTIVE”!

The abnormal has definitely become the new normal in retrospect to ECZEMA! Eczema has become so “normal” that as a child having it is looked at as a regular day, but NOTHING is normal about a child having a chronic disease. Atopic dermatitis, AD or what you all may know as Eczema, is a skin condition that affects nearly 18 million adults and over 9 million children in the US. If you ever dealt with eczema you are aware of how frustrating and infuriating it is. It’s one of those things that you grow to tolerate because the journey leaves you literally helpless. I remember as a kid having mild eczema. Every year when it started to get cold my mom would come home with the blue and white round tube. I would soak in an aveeno oatmeal bath and following my bath I would be glistening in aquaphor lol. I always wondered why my mom had to apply it, until I got older and saw the price and then it all made sense. We were a family of five and she knew if we applied it, it would’ve been empty in 2 days. I hated the fact that my clothes would stick to me, but my itch would go away so I grew to tolerate it. As I grew older , I grew out of eczema, now my skin would be dry here and there, but it wasn’t that bad were I would need aquaphor.

Fast forward to 2016 winter (I am 21),  I am fresh out the shower and my skin feels super super dry randomly. I immediately reach for my aquaphor stash, I forgot to tell y’all I used to keep a small stash just incase every year lol. But I applied it, ofcourse my clothes started sticking, i’m greasy as hell, and it’s all so annoying. I remember my boyfriend at the time telling me, “you know that isn’t working right”. And I responded, “yes it does that’s why I stop itching”. And I will never forget him telling me, “if it really worked you wouldn’t have to keep using it”. That statement was to much for me to internalize at the time, it honestly went over my head, but now it all makes sense.

ROOT CAUSE OF ECZEMA:
1. Stress

2. Environmental toxins

3. Inflammation

4. Food intolerance

5. Nutrient deficiency

6. Histamine intolerance

Many people go through life spending thousands of dollars on steroids, creams, dermatologist visits, etc. it’s like a hamster on a wheel, your running in place, but getting nowhere because the eczema never gets better. It may become controllable, but your still left feeling helpless. It wasn’t until I really understood what root causes were and how it applies to eczema, that myself and others started to feel relief. In the last 6 years I have mastered atopic dermatitis (eczema), what it is, why we deal with it, etc. Moderate to severe eczema, atopic dermatitis isn’t just a skin condition. Eczema is a chronic, systemic condition that causes skin inflammation. It is said to be linked to an overactive immune system and persistent inflammation. For some, eczema can flare unexpectedly, and the itch and rash that comes with it can feel really intense at times. Eczema can show up on the hands, feet, wrists, ankle, eyelid, inside of your elbow or knee, chest, or neck.

SYMPTOMS OF ECZEMA:

•Dry, red/discolored, itchy skin

•Crusting or cracking patches of thickened skin

•Areas of swelling or inflamed skin

Everyone is unique, and so is your experience with eczema, but what I can say is, the root cause of eczema is linear. After much research and personal experience, eczema is a GUT ISSUE that manifest itself in the skin. Just as asthma is a GUT ISSUE that manifest itself in the lungs. ECZEMA IS A CLEAR SIGN OF GUT IMBALANCE. Our gut health is super important, yet we pay the least attention to it. There are so many conditions/illnesses that stem from poor gut health like eczema, seasonal allergies, asthma, etc.

The topical creams and steroids are nothing but SUPPRESSANTS; they make your eczema worse and keep you dependent. Your eczema may get better, but for some asthma appears or even seasonal allergies, which all makes sense being as though you failed to address the root cause (Gut imbalance). Understand that you CANNOT out-supplement an inflammatory diet or inflammatory lifestyle. This means there is no such thing as using creams, steroids, herbs, to heal yourself without addressing the REASON (root cause).

HOW CAN YOU HEAL:

  1. Address your gut imbalance

  2. Remove processed foods

  3. Remove processed sugars

  4. Address the skin microbiome

  5. Reduce stress

  6. Decontaminate your household, environment, & lifestyle

  7. Eat a Whole Foods diet***

  8. Drink plenty of water

Breakdown Aquaphor Ingredients:

  1. Lanolin- A product of the oil glands of sheep.

  2. Petrolatum- A purified mixture of semisolid hydrocarbons from petroleum. Many petroleum products are reported to be cancer-causing additives. A lubricant in meatpacking plants that is also used in dried egg albumin. When ingested it produces a mild laxative effect. Not absorbed but may inhibit digestion.

  3. Ceresin- may cause allergic reactions. Used as a substitute for beeswax and paraffin wax.

  4. Glycerin- in concentrated solutions it is irritating to the mucous membrane.

As you can tell from the ingredient list, this cream is more of a harm to our bodies than a help. We spend so much of our time focusing on the outside and I think it’s because that’s what we see every single day, that we forget to tend to our insides. YOUR INSIDE INFLUENCES YOUR OUTSIDE, SO TEND TO YOUR INSIDE MORE. Once you master the INNER WORK, the OUTER will automatically represent because the work will pour out onto the surface (the outer). I don’t care how many facials, chemical pills, face wash, etc you use, if you do not address your gut and diet, you will never get rid of acne. This is true for all aspects of life. Remember that you are not alone. Eczema is a condition that millions of people struggle with everyday. Stay tuned for part 2 of this blog post. Consultations are always available as well! Have a great weekend.
